That’s life I guess

November 10, 2007 · 12 Comments

It has been so difficult to post recently even though I badly wanted to.    This is due to a combination of exhaustion and lack of inspiration.

I recently started teaching a business course at one of our Universities and even though it is only once per week, it has been exhausting.   I like it though.  I’ve always loved interacting with young people and it’s just fascinating being on the other side of the education divide.   You know, the one setting the exams instead of sitting them.

The last few weeks have really been fraught with disappointment, frustration,  and indecision about future.

Well, the disappointment and frustration comes from it appearing that I won’t be able to move into my new apartment for Christmas.  I was really looking forward to that.  The developers pissed me off so much.  I’ve been waiting for more than a year on the apartment to finish.  I still can’t believe that they’re dragging their feet on it.  What concerns me is that I suspect that they’ve run out of money and believe me that thought is not a comforting one.    I really can’t see how else to explain what seems like a lack of committment.  The good thing is that work has not stalled - even though at the snail-pace they’re going, it might as well be.

Then I’ve been thinking about my next career move.   When I first started this job,  I had put a 2-year timeline on it.  Then I thought about extending it to 3 years after I started working on some interesting projects.  Well, now that the interesting projects have dried up, I’m back to my orginal timeline, which means come April 2008 I should be in a different job or close to being so.

I’ve been looking on positions overseas, mainly Cayman Island and Bermuda.   I was really leaning towards Bermuda, had even signed up with an agent and have been receiving notifications of vacant positions.  Since last week however, I’ve been thinking maybe I should really try Cayman Island.  I see Digicel with some positions in Trinidad but I don’t think I’m very interested in living in Trinidad.

Decisions, decisions.    Oh well.

Hope your apartment works out. Dunno about Bermuda, but one thing to remember is that Cayman is quite expensive. If you plan with that in mind and you still want to come and you can find something, rope een!

you still havent gotten the new place yet? lets hope they dont drag it out for years.

My mother always encouraged me to find a job in Cayman.. The hurricane thing with them would never work out in my mind though.

Good to see you back in blogland. I too have been thinking about exploring emloyment elsewhere. My drive is mainly financial at the moment, so I want to go where the money is stronger and the pay better. Hope things speeds up soon with the apartment, a year is too long. And whatever choice you make career wise, I hope it works out well.

Great to see you post again. I can relate to the lack of inspiration to post. That’s what happens to me as well when my life becomes distracting.

The up side about your job timeline is that you aren’t allowing yourself to get so settled in your job that you forget about it. I’m pretty confident that you’ll figure it all out in good time. Good luck to you.

    Hello City Girl,
I am a last semester student in Montreal, Canada. I have visited Jamaica a couple of times and I loved it. In school we were asked to do a project about any country in the world, and I strongly suggested Jamaica to my team members. However I find there is not much information on your country, at least not the type we need to complete the project. So I would like to ask you for help. You seem very well spoken and intelligent woman and may be able to help us out.

The project consists of finding a printed american ad (commercial) of a product not available in Jamaica and adapting it to fit the jamaican consumers.
We have found an ad (I can e-mail it to you if you let me know where) of a low alcoholic beverage called PEELS. I dont think it is in Jamaica yet.
I wanted to ask you some questions once you look at the ad. It will only take 10-15 mins of your time.
I forgot to ad that this 5% alcohol, pure fruit juice beverage is targeted to 20-40 year old women, usually working, mature, sophisticated.
    Any help would be appreciated,

    Deni

I sent you the ad via e-mail last week and I still have no response. Did you get it? Thanks.
