YES!!!!!!! YES!!!!! Thank you Veronica, thank you for lifting the spirits of all Jamaicans. That’s how it is done. I wonder if I was the only person standing in front of the television set with tears streaming down face.
This victory is important in several ways. We have come close multiple times but we have never won a 100m Gold in either the World Championship or Olympic games. What’s more, we have had Jamaican/USA photo finish before but it’s usually the American athlete who’s declared the gold medallist.
All hail Veronica, the true Champion!

Congrats to Veronica! I did not see it live… but read a newswire at work and jumped around the office in joy! Veronica avenged Powell’s defeat. I checked the replays of the race and new she would win it when the other girls did not get far enough away from her at the start… she has the fastest top end speed in the world!
Met her in the airport lines too… she stood in line like a normal person and was so humble. I spoke with her all through the airport and while we waited in between stops. She was not snobbish and seemed genuinely interested in our conversation.
So whats next to win… Usain in the 200?

There’s a chance for a medal in the 400m women. Can’t remember her name but she has the fastest time going into the finals.
Just watched the 100m women medal ceremony. Gosh, I can’t get accustomed to hearing our anthem on the world stage. In tears as usual.
Hopefully Usain can get a medal in 200m, he has strong competition, Gay and Spearman.

Now , I am no expert on track and field, but how you say we never win gold yet? Donald Quarrie won gold in mens 100M in Olympics, did he not? And Herb McKinley won something too, think it might have been gold…
mad bull // September 1, 2007 at 3:04 pm
Or maybe Quarrie was 200 meters… hmmm…
Gela // September 1, 2007 at 8:04 pm
No man, that is 200m Gold for Quarrie. Herb got silver in Helsinki Olympics but he was part of the 4 x 400 gold medal team at one of the Olympics. The gold always elude us. Merlene and Gail Dever had photo finish, clocking the same time on two occassions and they gave it to Gail. We’re luckier in 200m.

Asafa has nothing to be ashamed of and deserves credit. Booing him and dissing him at the moment is off the mark. He is a 1st class athelete for Jamaica. Big up Asafa and Veronica.

I agree with RI re booing Asafa. As much as I was disappointed in him not getting the gold, if we were all to boo him, that would do nutten for his morale….remember, being a world class athlete is not only about physical fitness, the mind has much to do with it as well. ‘Low him, I will be looking out for him in the next Olympics.
Veronica shock out!
